A letter

Why I started this.

I started 121 Collaborative because I wanted a company that would stay principled. Not louder as it grew. Not thinner.

I think AI should be easy to reach. Not hidden behind a classroom, or a door you have to already understand, or a price only a company can pay. I think it should be possible to afford. And I think the person using it should keep control of their data and their privacy. That is why I write software.

I do my best to collect and keep as little as I can, while still building something that can actually help in ordinary life. A working product is not zero data. I will not pretend it is. I will keep as little as I can, and I will not sell what you type.

The way I want to build Eleanor is this. As much as I can should live on your device, so fewer of your words have to travel, and so fewer of them have to be paid for by the token. When something has to touch the cloud, those services have real costs I cannot wish away. I only want to charge for that part. I keep the cost of running this company as low as I can, so the person talking with her is the one who is helped, as the world around it keeps changing.

That is the company I am trying to be. The app is still being built. You can talk with her here today.

What is here today

You can talk with Eleanor on this site. The app and Quill, a keyboard so she can help where you already write, are being built. There is nothing to buy or download here today.

What I will not do

I will not sell your words.

I will not pretend she is a person.

I will say what I mean.

I will not grow in a way that makes the care thinner.
